David is currently serving his first term as a Councilmember for the City of San Mateo, winning a four-year term in November 2009.  Prior to serving on the City Council, David served six years on the City of San Mateo Community Relations Commission, and was on the San Mateo Neighborhood Watch Board of Directors for five years. 

In his "full-time job", David works as a deputy district attorney for the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office, a position he has held since graduating from UC Hastings College of the Law in 1999. 

Prior to law school, David worked in the Washington, D.C. office of the late Congressman Robert T. Matsui (Sacramento).  David was also an adjunct professor at the UCLA Graduate School of Education, and prior to that was a public school teacher in Los Angeles, teaching 7<sup>th</sup> grade world history.  In addition to his J.D. from Hastings Law School, David has a M.Ed. from the UCLA School of Education, and a B.A. in political science from UCLA. 

David is married to Terri Lim, and they have two children.  In his spare time, David is an avid (but slow) runner, having completed 12 marathons.
