SOFTBALL: Bulldogs Eliminated by Sac City

College of San Mateo offense managed three runs in dropping pair of games at Super Regionals.

The College of San Mateo softball team suffered a season-ending 8-2 defeat to Sacramento City College on Saturday afternoon in the Super Regionals in Stockton, hours after by the same school in Fairfield.

CSM (28-14, 2-3 playoffs) was coming off a 4-1 loss on Friday at the hands of San Joaquin Delta College – the top-seeded school in the state. Delta’s ace Katie Cotta (28-0) delivered a two-hit, 11-strikeout performance to open the double-elimination four-team tournament.

Sac City (34-10, 3-1 playoffs), an earlier 5-4 loser to Sierra, got on the board quickly with two runs in the first inning. The Panthers added four in the fourth and eventually built an 8-0 cushion by the seventh.

CSM scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh but it proved too little too late for another miraculous comeback. The Bulldogs struggled to hit for the second consecutive day, going 6-for-27 at the plate.

CSM starter Alyssa Jepsen (Notre Dame-Belmont) and reliever Callie Pacheco (Half Moon Bay) combined to allow 10 hits and six walks. The Bulldog defense also committed three errors, which accounted for three unearned runs.
