Football Rankings: San Mateo County's Top 15

Unbeaten Sequoia and South City on the climb; 0-3 Jefferson takes a fall.

Three weeks into the high school football season, here is a look at how San Mateo County teams stack up. The top-15 weekly rankings are drawn from all schools in the county.

1. Serra 3-0 (Last week: 1) Winning program’s first OT game since ’04 sends Padres into bye week all smiles.

2. Sacred Heart 3-0 (3) Leapfrogs Terra Nova even though Tigers seem likely to be favored in Oct. 7 showdown.

3. Terra Nova 1-2 (2) 1-5 record vs. tough teams in first three games in ’09 and ’10 didn’t preclude PAL Bay titles.

4. Menlo-Atherton 1-2 (4) Five-turnover loss to SI should provide plenty of motivation in practice.

5. Sequoia 2-0 (8) 9-point road win over East Bay power Pinole Valley suggests Cherokees could be formidable.

6. Aragon 2-0 (7) Already atoned for ’10 loss to San Mateo; now Dons seek revenge for 20-6 loss to Carlmont.

7. Menlo 2-0 (6) Look for plenty of offensive fireworks in game with Hillsdale, mostly on Menlo’s side.

8. Jefferson 0-3 (5) Indians smarting from SHC whipping; North county battle with South City will be telling.

9. South San Francisco 3-0 (11) Balanced ‘O’ has scored more each week; 4-0 start would bring many more believers.

10. Woodside 2-0-1 (9) At bye week, it’s unclear if San Mateo tie was a slip-up or example of PAL parity.

11. Burlingame 2-1 (10) Enigmatic Panthers impress with 4-TD win at Gunn; Nos. 6-11 in rankings seem interchangeable.

12. Half Moon Bay 1-2 (12) Encouraging showing by ‘D’ in 18-13 win at Leigh; M-A will be solid test.

13. El Camino 2-1 (13) After allowing fewest points in 15 games in win over Lincoln-SF, Colts now hit bye week.

14. San Mateo 0-1-1 (15) Hands Woodside 1st blemish, but Mills’ win means SMHS has county’s longest winless streak (10 games).

15. Carlmont 0-2 (14) Coming off bye, Scots face good gauge with consecutive games against Aragon, Woodside & San Mateo.
