Woman Pistol-Whipped in San Mateo Motel Room, Police Say

"SMPD Detectives have discovered that there is a prostitution angle to this case, and are working to determine what part it may have played in the incident," according to a police news release.

A woman was pistol-whipped by a man who fired his gun at a San Mateo motel early Saturday morning, and now police are asking for the public's help in finding the suspect, according to police.

Police responded to reports of a woman screaming and shots fired at about 3:30 a.m. Saturday at the Best Value Inn located at 140 N. Bayshore Blvd.

"Investigation revealed that the woman was pistol-whipped by the suspect during an altercation at the Inn," a press release issued Tuesday said, adding that the 23-year-old Oakland woman's injuries were not life-threatening.

Though the woman was not shot "...at least one round was discharged from the armed suspect’s semi-automatic firearm during the incident," the police report stated.

When police got to the scene, a suspect in the shooting had fled the area, described as a black man in his late 20s standing about 5 feet 8 inches tall with an average build, police said.

Investigators are looking into whether the suspect is involved in prostitution, they said.

"SMPD Detectives have discovered that there is a prostitution angle to this case, and are working to determine what part it may have played in the incident," according to the press release.

Police searched for the suspect but he got away. Anyone who with information about his location has been asked to call San Mateo police Detective Alex Rizzato at (650) 522-7669.
