By Bay City News Service:

An armed robber was arrested after employees at a convenience store in San Mateo detained him on Wednesday night, police said.

Shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday, San Mateo police officers were dispatched to Market La Raza, located at 380 N. Ellsworth Ave. on the corner of East Poplar Avenue, on a report of an in-progress armed robbery, according to police.

Police said the suspect, later identified as 26-year-old Richmond resident Vincent Carter, was allegedly armed.

Before the officers arrived at the market, two of the store employees were able to disarm Carter and detain him inside the store, police said.

Officers arrived to find the suspect still fighting off the employees inside the store. Carter was taken into custody and the weapon wielded by the suspect, a sawed-off shotgun, was safely seized as evidence, according to police.

No serious injuries were reported as a result of the incident, police said.

Carter was arrested and later booked into San Mateo County Jail on suspicion of armed robbery, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, resisting arrest, possession of a short-barrel shotgun and a parole hold, according to police.
