San Mateo Man Takes Plea Deal for Soliciting Sexual Acts From Girls

The man was arrested earlier this year, thanks to a police effort to find him via social media, authorities said.

By Bay City News Service:

A San Mateo man accused of soliciting sexual acts from minors earlier this year accepted a plea deal on Monday in San Mateo County Superior Court, prosecutors said.

Roberto Miculax, 41, pleaded no contest to felony communication with a minor for a lewd act and misdemeanor soliciting in exchange for a maximum sentence of three years in state prison.

Prosecutors said that on Feb. 18, Miculax approached a 15-year-old girl who was standing on a sidewalk on Claremont Street in San Mateo and asked her in Spanish to perform a sexual act on him. The girl refused and left the area.

She called police, who searched for the suspect but did not locate him. Video surveillance from a nearby store was used to identify Miculax as the suspect after police released his image to the public on social media.

Two additional victims, both 12-year-old San Mateo girls, came forward and identified Miculax as having solicited sex acts from them on different occasions, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.

Miculax turned himself in to police on March 5, Wagstaffe said.

He remains in custody on $300,000 bail and is set to be sentenced on July 8.
