San Mateo Man Killed in Motorcycle Crash on Hwy 1

The crash prompted one-way traffic control on Highway 1 for about two hours.

A San Mateo man was killed and his female passenger was injured in a motorcycle crash Thursday on state Highway 1 in Half Moon Bay, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at about 4 p.m. on Highway 1 at Gazos Creek Road, CHP Officer Art Montiel said.

It appears a Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling north Highway 1 when a Ford Mustang that was traveling south on the highway made a left turn in front of the motorcycle.

The front end of the motorcycle and riders struck the right side of the Mustang.  The driver of the motorcycle was ejected and sustained fatal injuries.

The passenger of the motorcycle was ejected and sustained major injuries. Both parties from the motorcycle were transported by Life Flight to Stanford Medical Center where the driver was pronounced deceased.

The driver of the Mustang sustained minor injuries, Montiel said.

Highway 1 was limited to one way traffic control for about two hours following the crash.

This collision remains under investigation, but it does not appear that alcohol or drugs were a factor.

Anyone who witnessed this collision is encouraged to contact Officer Eric Wahl at (650) 369-6261.
