Medical Emergency Spurs Crash

San Mateo motorist hospitalized after striking tree.

A 29-year-old man was injured Tuesday morning when the car he was driving crashed into a tree in Belmont, police said.

Officers responded to reports of an accident at the intersection of Ralston Avenue and Granada Street at about 9:25 a.m., according to Belmont police. A 1998 Ford Taurus had crashed into a tree that was on an island near the intersection, police said.

The driver, a San Mateo man, was treated at the scene by Belmont Fire Department paramedics before being taken to a hospital. His injuries were not expected to be life threatening.

A preliminary investigation revealed the victim suffered a medical emergency that caused him to lose control of his vehicle and crash into the tree.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, police said.
