Jury to Resume Deliberations Monday in Youshock Trial

Case hinges on defendant's sanity at time of Hillsdale High School pipe bombing.

Jurors in the San Mateo County Superior Court trial of Alexander Youshock, who is accused of attempting to kill his former Hillsdale High School teachers on Aug. 24, 2009. Deliberations will continue on Monday.

Youshock faces multiple felony counts for his actions – including two counts of attempted murder and two counts of exploding a destructive device with the intent to murder.

Prosecutors say Youshock went to the school intending to kill his former chemistry teacher, bringing with him homemade pipe bombs, a small Samurai sword and a chainsaw he nicknamed "Collie" after Columbine High School.

On Wednesday prosecutors asserted that Youshock methodically premeditated his attack on Hillsdale High. Defense attorney Jonathan McDougall countered that Youshock's schizophrenia made him unable to separate fantasy from reality.
