Biologists from the Department of Fish and Game and University of California at Davis will be using dart guns to capture deer and put radio collars on them as part of a study to help reduce deer and motorist collisions, according to Caltrans, the funder of the study.
On Saturday and Sunday, July 21-22 and 28-29, biologists will tag the deer for the six-month study which is intended to help protect the deer population.
It is the second such phase of the study, with the first taking place in December 2011. Results from the first phase are not yet available.
Some trapping will be visible to drivers. Trapping will be going on from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day.
Capturing of deer will not endanger the public. Caltrans advises motorists not to disturb biologists while they are conducting the capturing and tagging process.
