Family Jewel - What's on Second Sports Cards

Read our mother and son take on this local family jewel - What's on Second Sports Cards

Julie Say's - What's On Second

Walk into What's On Second, and you feel like you are stepping back to a simpler time. Chock full of trading cards of every imaginable kind displayed in glass cases, the store offers sports memorabilia, single cards, pre-packaged packs, and the store's own hand-picked "surprise packs."

What's on Second has been a family favorite ever since our son became a huge Pokemon fan. Many a Sunday, after brunch at Bay Watch, we will walk down and let our son pick out a new card. I also love to watch my husband as he ambles through the store -- a twinkle in his eye that I recognize as a rekindling of his own childhood memories of collecting cards and sports memorabilia.

Jordan, the store owner, is very relaxed and helpful and Who's on Second has also become a popular stop for us when choosing a birthday present for one of Ryan's friends. If you're looking for a wholesome family experience that gets your child to look up from their DS, I recommend you check out Who's on Second!

If you go into What's on Second, to your left there is an entire case of Pokemon cards! The first and second shelves have regular Pokemon cards, but the third shelf has really good cards, from Level X's to 100 damagers. There is a special machine that gives out 5 surprise cards per 25 cents. The owner is really nice and even offered to trade some of my really good cards for cards at the store. If you don't like any of the single cards at the store -- good news. There are Pokemon card packs, tins and books for holding your cards. Enjoy!
