Successful Fourth of July Runs Held in Redwood City, Pacifica This Morning

Sunny and beautiful for runners in Redwood City; overcast and cool in Pacifica for the early run.

Local runners found differing weather conditions for two separate Fourth of July runs on the Peninsula this Fourth of July.

In Redwood City, runners launched about 8:45 a.m. for the 36th annual Fourth of July Parade Run under warm, sunny skies, running the same route as the parade.

Sunnyvale runner Tony Herr finished the 3.5 mile race in first place with a time of 19 minutes and 13 seconds.

In Pacifica, over one hundred runners of all ages gathered about 9 a.m. at the Pacifica Community Center for the Rocket Run.

The five-mile race, meandering through Pacifica's Linda Mar neighborhood and San Pedro Valley, has been going on for so long that Parks, Beaches and Recreation Department Director Mike Perez can't recall when it began.

The six top runners runners were awarded medals at an awards ceremony after the race.

First place went to Andy Chen, 40, of San Francisco, who has been coming to the Rocket Run since 1998.
