SFO Glows Red and Gold to Support 49ers

The terminal has been decked in red and gold lights to support the football team.

Support for the San Francisco 49ers, who are facing the New York Giants on Sunday in the NFC Championship game at Candlestick Park, cannot be contained to city streets.

San Francisco International Airport's International Terminal has been bathed in red and gold lights to support the team and remind visitors worldwide they have arrived in "49er Country," according to SFO officials.

Airport Director John L. Martin said in a statement that airport electricians were working all day Thursday to set up the lights to give off a winning glow at the airport.

"We are looking forward to assisting all the players, coaches, management staff, and of course, the faithful 49er fans, when they depart (we hope!) next week for Indianapolis and Super Bowl XLVI," Martin said.

Many city landmarks have been lit up in 49er colors since the team's big win against the New Orleans Saints last Saturday.

The dome at City Hall was illuminated red and gold and Coit Tower atop Telegraph Hill will shine red until Sunday's game.

Along the city skyline, all four Embarcadero Center buildings have also been trimmed with 1,600 red and gold lights that shine each day from 4 p.m. to midnight.

The game between the 49ers and Giants begins at 3:30 p.m.
