Car Apparently Ignites House Fire in San Mateo Neighborhood

A car parked in the side yard of a house on El Dorado Street may be responsible for starting a structure fire Thursday afternoon.

Crews from San Mateo and Foster City fire departments responded to a structure fire at approximately 2:30 p.m. Thursday at 155 El Dorado St.

According to a neighbor who witnessed the owner of the car attempting to start it earlier, the car caught on fire, which in turn ignited items along the side of the house and then the house itself.

Smoke was coming from an upstairs window as firefighters sprayed hoses into the second story. The fire was under control by about 3:30 p.m.
