San Mateo Police Investigate Shooting

The shooting occurred late Wednesday night in a residential neighborhood.

Police in San Mateo are investigating a shooting that occurred late Wednesday night in a residential neighborhood.

Officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 1500 block of Lodi Avenue at about 11:30 p.m. and found a 24-year-old man suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound, San Mateo Police Sgt. Dave Norris said.

Evidence at the scene led officers to believe there had been a gun battle, and other involved parties were likely seriously injured, according to Norris.

Detectives are speaking with several witnesses and unraveling details of what occurred. Detectives believe this residence to have been targeted, and this does not appear to be a random act.

The San Mateo Police Department is also aware that two apparent gunshot victims appeared at a hospital in San Jose.

Detectives are exploring whether there is any relationship between the gunshot victims in San Jose and the San Mateo case.
