The San Mateo City Council is remembering former mayor and longtime council member John Lee, who died May 7, as a passionate and dedicated member of the San Mateo community. Mayor Brandt Grotte has ordered the flags at all City of San Mateo facilities to fly at half-staff through sunset on May 10 in memory of John’s service to the community. Grotte said one of John’s favorite quotes was, “Be the person that your dog thinks you are.” “John Lee actually was that gentleman. He was a scholar; and a gentleman – always the gentleman," said Mayor Grotte. Lee, who served 13 years on the San Mateo City Council, died after battling cancer.
The city of San Mateo has announced the passing of former mayor John Lee, who died after a battle with cancer. In a blog post on San Mateo Patch, Deputy Mayor David Lim highlighted Lee's many accomplishments in his terms on the San Mateo City Council, including the building of the Century 12 Downtown San Mateo movie theatres, the state-of-the-art San Mateo Public Library and the San Mateo Police Department. Lee served 13 years on the San Mateo City Council, from 1998 through 2011, when he retired due to term limits. Lee served as mayor to the City of San Mateo three times, most recently in 2010. Feinman died unexpectedly on Friday.
San Mateo Planning Commission Chair Alex Feinman died unexpectedly on Friday morning, according to city officials. Feinman reportedly passed away following a sudden heart attack. Ron Cox remained active in local government up until his death Saturday at age 61.
Former Foster City Mayor and longtime Lions Club member Ron Cox passed away on Saturday. He was 61. Cox lived in Foster City for 24 years, and dedicated himself to the community. Last year, he was inducted in the Foster City Hall of Fame for his volunteer work and years of service to the city. Cox owned Cox and Sons Construction. "Ron Cox leaves an indelible mark in the hearts of those he worked with and served in this community," said Foster City Mayor Linda Koelling. "He unselfishly volunteered his time especially on behalf of the youth. I was honored to have served with him and be able to call him a friend."
