The class of 1971 at Serra High included unique individuals that wove a harmonious pattern of…Read More friendship and mutual respect. Buck stood out among those individuals. It was always a pleasure to run into him in the hallways and lunchroom. We have already lost several of our best classmates and it gets harder each time. I was fortunate enough to see him one last time during our annual Christmas gathering (actually my first) and will always remember him fondly. We are all better people for knowing Buck.

Before the time of cell phones, email, and online resources, participating in FOMF Trivia Hunt was…Read More 48 hours of guaranteed great adventure as we raced around the bay in search of the obscure and hard-to-find. It often became a contest of Spy vs. Spy, swiping books from tables and employing counter-intelligence-like tactics to lead other teams astray. We didn't intend on learning or even winning most times but the race and court-like scoring event was something between Animal House and the Paper Chase and did teach me so much. A posthumous thank you to Dr Hunter. A great educator.

My wife and I figured out way too many years later that we both must have participated at the same…Read More time in a couple of Millard Fillmore hunts while we were at M-A and Gunn, respectively.
Dr. Bob Hunter's hosting of the opening and closing sessions of the hunts were always enjoyable. RIP, Dr. Hunter.

I would like to personally thank all of you for your very kind words regarding my grandfather. He…Read More was a fervently dedicated man when it came to family, country and friends. He lived to serve the people that he cared about the most and for the last decade, this included the City of San Mateo and its constituents.
The people he surrounded himself with were the reasons for making things better. Perhaps it was the Marine in him, but it was extremely important to him for people to feel safe in their community and in their homes, if you didn’t then he was going to figure out a way to change that.
My grandfather and I used to joke about how much he disliked the concept of “term limits”, but only for him! He would have continued to serve his community in the capacity of Mayor, as long as you would have allowed him.
Please know that he thought very fondly of all you and you were in his heart as clearly he was in yours.
Best wishes,
Julie Lee
