Established in 1922, the College of San Mateo is a local community college serving 11,000 students. A range of programs are available, including semester-long and short courses as well as distance learning possibilities. Students can choose to pursue their education full or part time, in the day or evenings. Certificates are awarded for certain occupational programs. The school also offers a range of athletic teams, including baseball, football, track and field, cross country, swimming, basketball and water polo. Upon completion of their course of study here, many students transfer to University of California or California State University.
