My Wishes for You in the New Year

I have three wishes for you for this new year …

I wish for you more and more clarity about anything that might keep you from love.  This quote by Rumi is one of my favorites.  “Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.”

I wish for you to connect with and understand those barriers, those judgments turned inward and outward, those ways we disconnect from ourselves as we seek the approval of others, and instead go below the surface to connect with the beautiful feelings and needs within you.  The heartful place where love lives.  And where we often feel vulnerable and want to protect.

Sometimes those protective thoughts stop us from caring for those wounded places.  Remember Rumi’s words, “The wound is the place where the Light enters you.”

I wish for you much love and kindness from yourself.  How we relate to ourselves is so important.  Nurturing ourselves with love and compassion.

Thich Nhat Hanh said it in a beautiful way. “It's like a mother, when the baby is crying, she picks up the baby and she holds the baby tenderly in her arms. Your pain, your anxiety is your baby. You have to take care of it. You have to go back to yourself, to recognize the suffering in you, embrace the suffering, and you get a relief."

Yes, time for mourning AND time for celebration, for the joyous moments.  Letting them fill you up.  :)

I wish for you much love and kindness from others.  Whether it be from the special ones in your life, a smile from a stranger, a door held open for you, …

We all want to know we’re loved.  So look for it.  And then let it in, as much as you’re able.  I recently talked about my asking to be celebrated and loved.  Being loved can change your life.

We give up our true selves to receive others’ approval .  The more we sense we’re loved from the inside and the outside unconditionally, the freer we are to be ourselves more and more once again.  To be unencumbered from thoughts of how we should be for others.  To let our own unique light shine.  It's a gift for us.  And for the world.

How would it be to let your own light shine?

In peace and love, Teresa
