JC Football: CSM 28, Chabot 7

Ninth-ranked CSM gains 443 total offensive yards against No. 20 Chabot on Saturday

George Naufahu rushed for 140 yards and scored twice, Willy Fonua threw for 150 yards and two touchdowns and the ninth-ranked College of San Mateo football team downed visiting Chabot College, 28-7, in a nonconference game on Saturday.

Naufahu, who went to San Mateo High, was the Bulldogs (2-0) workhorse, carrying the ball 20 times. He went 34 yards for one score and caught a 20-yard pass from Fonua, who attended Menlo-Atherton High.

Fonua also threw a 13-yard scoring strike to El Camino High grad DJ Peluso as CSM accumulated 433 total yards while limiting the Gladiators (1-1) to 234 yards.

Casey Wichman also saw action at quarterback, rushing for 16 yards and passing for another 72 yards. He also scored a touchdown, a one-yard run, less than three minutes into the contest.

The Bulldogs needed seven plays to go 75 yards in 2:22 after taking the opening kickoff. The Bulldogs also had scoring drives of 95, 80 and 75 yards.

Bryant Hayes intercepted a pass and returned it 26 yards, Sam Atoe and Pio Vatuvei shared a a sack and Jake Kearney recorded 10 tackles for CSM.

The Bulldogs travel to Diablo Valley College (0-2) for a 7 p.m. game on Friday night.
