Gryphons Players Shine in 2011 PDP and ODP

The GSC is proud to announce that 4 of their players who train in the Region 2 PDP pool were invited to attend NorCal Premier's Player Development Program (PDP) playdate on Oct 23, 2011. Additionally, 5 of our players were also selected into the final State Olympic Development (ODP) tryouts that will be held on December 10th.

The GSC and coach Ricardo Marta congratulate the players on their achievements so far. Both the PDP and ODP serve to identify, develop, and showcase the top players within each age group in Northern California, provide specialized training with experienced coaches, and offer opportunities for college, US national team and international professional soccer club exposure. 

The selection was based on an independent evaluation of the individual players, not the performance of their club team. The GSC has instituted a player development program (starting at pre-academy and continuing through academy levels) based upon that developed by the Italian Serie A club AC Fiorentina for their youth programs.

The AC Fiorentina Method is premised on the philosophy that psycho motor skills, coordination and individual tactics must be developed in young players in order to allow the players to reach their potential in later years. To put it simply, players must become coordinated and agile in order to develop their individual soccer skills and before significant focus is put on learning game tactics.

About the Gryphons Soccer Club

The Gryphons Soccer Club (GSC) is a non-profit organization that promotes youth soccer on the San Francisco Peninsula in California. Players come from towns all over the San Francisco Peninsula, including Belmont, San Carlos, San Mateo, Foster City, Redwood City, San Francisco and the South Bay. The GSC offers starter programs for the youngest of players (between 3 and 8 yrs old), as well as the Team Academy (for players over 8 yrs old).
