Free Throw Shooting Contest Saturday at Serra High

The competition is Saturday at Serra High.

 

The San Mateo Elks Lodge is sponsoring a "National Hoop Shoot Free Throw" contest for boys and girls aged 8 through 13, in three separate age groups.

All children are encouraged to participate in the contest, which will be held Saturday at the Serra High gymnasium. Serra is located at 451 West 20th Avenue, San Mateo, CA 94403.


Registration can be completed by calling the San Mateo Elks Lodge at 650-345-4886, extension 11 or visiting online at www.sanmateoelks.org. A birth certificate is required to participate and must be brought to the hoop contest.

The age groups are 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13, and are also divided by gender. Three boys and three girls from each age category will be selected to advance to the Bay District Finals.

For age group 8-9, which will shoot from a line four feet in front of the regulation free throw line, kids cannot turn 10 on or before April 1, 2013.

For age group 10-11, kids cannot turn 12 on or before April 1, 2013.

For age group 12-13, kids cannot turn 14 on or before April 1, 2013.

All children should compete in the age group that they would be on April 1, 2013.

Yes, the world does not need another national chain retail store or restaurant, which is surely what they're planning to put in there.

Yes Bren, agree with you....good point.....really what it seems to come down to is money vs. theRead More good of the community and richness of traditions. And all despite the Master Plan for that site in San Mateo that seems to require an ice skating rink or similar recreational facility AT THAT SITE, and all despite the fact the Ice Chalet would like to continue operations there. The Developer has made it difficult to impossible for any ice rink to operate there (tricky it seems)....so they can get a cookie cutter retail outlet in ? .....very, very sad for the youth of the community.
