San Mateo Schools to Participate in International Walk to School Day

The event takes place on Oct. 3.

Students in the San Mateo-Foster City School District will participate in the annual International Walk to School Day on Oct. 3.

About 47,012 students from San Mateo County will walk to school alongside parents, teachers, community enthusiasts, and community leaders in an effort to promote the healthy event, school offiicials said.

San Mateo County Board of Supervisors Rose Jacobs-Gibson and Dave Pine will walk with students in their districts to school.

In addition, at the Oct. 23, Board of Supervisors’ Board Meeting, Supervisor Jacobs-Gibson will present a proclamation acknowledging International Walk to School Day and will recognize all participating San Mateo County schools.

In San Mateo County, event festivities will begin about 30 to 60 minutes before the start of school with parents and community leaders walking from various locations throughout the county.

Participants will arrive at their respective schools amid much fanfareStudents will record their walk on a large transportation mode chart and be rewarded with incentives provided by Safe Routes to School of San Mateo County, the Get Healthy San Mateo County TaskForce, the Peninsula Healthcare District, and the Hospital Consortium.

Yes, the world does not need another national chain retail store or restaurant, which is surely what they're planning to put in there.

Yes Bren, agree with you....good point.....really what it seems to come down to is money vs. theRead More good of the community and richness of traditions. And all despite the Master Plan for that site in San Mateo that seems to require an ice skating rink or similar recreational facility AT THAT SITE, and all despite the fact the Ice Chalet would like to continue operations there. The Developer has made it difficult to impossible for any ice rink to operate there (tricky it seems)....so they can get a cookie cutter retail outlet in ? .....very, very sad for the youth of the community.
