San Mateo Schools Participating in Great California ShakeOut

The Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drills began in California in 2008.

Schools in San Mateo will be participating in this year's Great California ShakeOut, in which millions of people worldwide will practice how to Drop, Cover, and Hold On at 10:17 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17.

The Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drills began in California in 2008 as an opportunity to practice how to be safer during big earthquakes.

The ShakeOut has also been organized to encourage you, your community, your school, or your organization to review and update emergency preparedness plans and supplies.

Schools in the San Mateo-Foster City School District, including Highlands Elementary School and The Bayside STEM Academy, will be participating Thursday.

San Mateo High School also plans to participate.
