NDNU Makes History With Enrollment Growth

The Belmont-based university surpasses 2K undergrad students for the first time in history.

Fueled by continuing sharp increases in undergraduate growth, Notre Dame de Namur University’s (NDNU) total student enrollment has reached 2,001, the highest in the university’s history, President Judith Maxwell Greig announced Monday. The previous high, in the fall of 2011, was 1,967.

“We have worked hard to increase enrollment over the past five years,” said President Greig. “But we are not interested just in numbers. We have managed to grow while also raising academic standards and improving access for underserved populations, including first-generation, Hispanic and low-income students.”

Virtually all the growth in the past year came from an increase in the size of the undergraduate population, which continued a five-year growth trend. In the past two years alone the undergraduate population has increased 18 percent to a record 1,183 from 1,002. The incoming freshman class of 182 was the second largest in the university’s history and enrollment of transfer students was a record 124. The total enrollment includes 200 students in three off-campus locations, Mission College in Santa Clara, and Cañada College and the Sobrato Center for Nonprofits, both in Redwood City, and 38 online students.

Notre Dame de Namur University is an independent Catholic, coeducational institution serving more than 2,000 students. Founded by the Sisters of Notre Dame of Namur, Belgium in 1851 and chartered by the state in 1868, NDNU maintains a strong commitment to social justice and community engagement. The University is fully accredited and offers 21 liberal arts and career preparation undergraduate programs, and 12 graduate degrees and five credentials. The 50-acre campus is located in Belmont, just south of San Francisco. For more information visit www.ndnu.edu.

Just a short thought to get the word out quickly about anything in your neighborhood.

I think the issue is much larger than whether children will experience stress. That ice rink is aRead More local institution, dating back at least to when Fashion Island was there. It's terrible for communities to lose so many landmarks and connect us to the past.
