Hillsdale High Fair Raises Funds for Clubs

Crowds enjoy music, edibles and crafts in the school's third annual holiday event.

Visitors to the Third Annual Hillsdale High School Holiday Fair Saturday supported the school's many student clubs while snapping up artwork and artisan wines, handmade goods and homemade pies.

Shoppers chose from jewelry, clothing and accessories, gourmet foods, toys, chocolates, and one-of-a-kind items. The school raffled an iPad and gift baskets. Students serenaded shoppers with seasonal music. And all proceeds went to the student clubs.

Hillsdale's 1,200 students have more than 20 clubs to choose from. They range in focus from cultural interest (the Asian club, the Filipino club, Latino Unidos, the Middle East club) to personal interests (creative writing, chess, art, music). There are those that expand on academics -- science and math, for instance -- and those that make a positive contribution (Paws for a Cause, the environmental club, Walk for a Cure). There's a Harry Potter club, and a Manga club for fans of the Japanese comic genre. The art club takes field trips to museums. The Leo club sponsors needy families for the holiday season and renovates homes. The equality club provides a supportive environment for gay and questioning students, the Thelia club for Christian young women.
