Sustainable Gardening Lecture Series – The Microbiology of Compost and Living Soils

There is a direct and scientifically proven connection between use of compost and the health and fertility of soil.  The connection is the vast, living group of “soil foodweb” microbes that make compost.  These microbes recycle raw organic waste into plant nutrients, protect plants from some pathogenic organisms, and naturally clean up some toxic waste.  Be amazed at the resilience of the natural world in our soils, which is the foundation of sustainability.  Walk away with an in-depth view of the microbiology involved in composting, an understanding of how composting can benefit your garden, and an overview of the composting process.

Sponsored by RecycleWorks, a program of the County of San Mateo Dept of Public Works.

Doors open at 6:30 pm.
