CSM Baseball a Game Out of First Place

The Lady Bulldogs look ahead to playoffs after championship season.

 

The College of San Mateo baseball team has a chance to finish in  a first-place tie entering the final day of the Coast-Golden Gate Conference regular season on Thursday.

The Bulldogs put themselves in that position with their 4-1 victory over third-place Mission College on Tuesday.

CSM (15-6, 21-14) has one game remaining, at home, against Gavilian on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. The Bulldogs are a game back of Chabot (16-5, 23-12), which travels to Mission College on Thursday.

Chabot has beaten CSM three times on the season, but has lost twice to Mission.

Ryan O'Malley hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning to put the Bulldogs ahead and Alex Palsha took it from there.

Palsha (6-4) threw an eight-hitter, walking one and striking out four in throwing the complete game.

Brandon DeFazio had two hits and drove in a run while Kailen Robinson also drove in a run.

Meanwhile, the College of San Mateo softball team completed its regular season Tuesday with an 8-0 victory over visiting City College of San Francisco.

The Lady Bulldogs (15-3. 36-4) successfully defended their Coast Conference North Division title following four consecutive seasons of finishing second.

CSM hopes to reach the state championship beginning May 17 in Bakersfield. The Bulldogs' first round Northern California playoff opponent will be determined this weekend.

Capuchino High grad Michele Plister turned in the best pitching performance in the state. She has the most wins (27) and lowest ERA (1.03) in the state and ranks fifth with 168 strikeouts.

Catcher Jamie Navarro ranked third in the conference with her .464 batting average and fifth with 38 RBIs.

Terra Nova High grad Talisa Flame ranks second in the conference with 44 RBIs and tird for third with six home runs.

El Camino High grad Selina Rodriguez is fifth in the conference with her .446 average and fourth with 15 stolen bases.
