Third Avenue Demo

The seasonal onshore winds means one thing for kiteboarders.  It’s kite season here in the Bay Area.  Just ask Mark Miller of Blade Kites. “Today we were at San Francisco's Chrissy Field and now were at Third Avenue so kiters can demo the equipment.  Miller, who drove from the Seattle area commented on the wind conditions saying, “This place is magic”. Rio Visat’s Sherman Island will be their last stop of the Northern California demo before returning to Washington. "We are thankfull for San Mateo letting us have the demo" said Miller.  Miller set up a facebook page and posts pictures from each of the location stops. https://www.facebook.com/BladeKitesUS

An informal kiteboarding swap meet will be held at 3rd Avenue on July 8th.  People wanting to see some of the local talent will find 3rd Avenue very accessible and close to the action.  There is parking next to the paved bike trial that curves alongside the shoreline and some front row park benches.  Another nearby viewing area is Coyote Point Recreational Area which has a shower and restroom facility.  Best viewing times are when the wind picks up which is usually in the afternoon and evening.

For those looking for some local sun and water activates this 4th of July, try Coyote Point Recreational Area.  There is swimming in the bay, grassy areas for small kite flying and trails to walk around and explore.  Board Sports School has Stand Up Paddle Boards (SUP), kiteboarding equipment for rental along with lessons.  Toy kites and ice cream can be purchased from their snack bar which is scheduled to be open from 11:00AM to 5:00PM. There is no lifeguard on duty so practice water safety.
