Simitian Backs Jerry Hill for State Senate

Endorsement adds to growing list from veteran politicos.

Longtime political heavyweight Joe Simitian is backing Jerry Hill to replace him in the 13th State Senate district, Hill’s campaign announced Monday.

Assemblymember Jerry Hill is California Assemblymember Sally Leiber for the newly drawn district, which includes the cities of San Carlos, Redwood City, Menlo Park, Atherton, East Palo Alto, Palo Alto, Los Altos and Los Altos Hills.

Hill has also been endorsed by Senators Leland Yee and Elaine Alquist, whose district both include cities that have been drawn into the new district 13.

Simitian, who is getting termed out of the State Senate, is himself returning to the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors, where he has served in the past, in addition to his time spent on the Palo Alto School Board, Palo Alto City Council, and California State Assembly. He has focused much of his political career on public safety, education and environmental protection.

"I am honored to receive the endorsement of Senator Joe Simitian," said Assemblymember Jerry Hill, "he has represented our region and our state with passion and distinction - and I look forward to continuing to work with him for the benefit of Peninsula residents and all Californians."

A long list of veteran politicos appear to be lining up behind Hill, including Congresswoman Anna Eshoo, Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom, and nine out of the ten San Mateo and Santa Clara County Supervisors, according to the campaign. 20 out of 23 mayors of cities in the district are also backing Hill, and on July 15th, he received the endorsement of the California Democratic Party.

I see that I meant to type "...that connect us to the past," but I accidentally typedRead More "...and connect us to the past." I think my meaning came through, though. Yes, the world does not need another national chain retail store or restaurant, which is surely what they're planning to put in there.

Yes Bren, agree with you....good point.....really what it seems to come down to is money vs. theRead More good of the community and richness of traditions. And all despite the Master Plan for that site in San Mateo that seems to require an ice skating rink or similar recreational facility AT THAT SITE, and all despite the fact the Ice Chalet would like to continue operations there. The Developer has made it difficult to impossible for any ice rink to operate there (tricky it seems)....so they can get a cookie cutter retail outlet in ? .....very, very sad for the youth of the community.

I think the issue is much larger than whether children will experience stress. That ice rink is aRead More local institution, dating back at least to when Fashion Island was there. It's terrible for communities to lose so many landmarks and connect us to the past.

Dear Ari, Thank you for your service to our community. It's wonderful that you are already making aRead More difference.
