San Mateo County Library Expands eBook Collection

Library users can access a growing collection of bestsellers, new releases and classic titles as well as heavily illustrated eBooks including children’s storybooks, cookbooks, and craft books.

San Mateo County Library this week announced a new digital platform for eBooks and more than 1,500 titles to its collection.

Axis360 is a new digital media service that offers interactive eBooks enhanced by color, video and audio.

Library users can access a growing collection of bestsellers, new releases and classic titles as well as heavily illustrated eBooks including children’s storybooks, cookbooks, and craft books.

Readers with a San Mateo County Library card can take advantage of the new eBook service 24/7 when they visit the library’s website from a computer or mobile device.

The cloud-based delivery system greatly simplifies the process of downloading what patrons want to read onto the devices they prefer to use, including Apple, Android and Windows tablets and smartphones.

At the end of the lending period, titles will automatically expire and are returned to the digital collection – eliminating late fees.

“The Library is excited to be able to offer additional eBooks to our community members,” Anne-Marie Despain, Director of Library Services, said in a statement.

“Since the Library first introduced eBooks, we have witnessed the popularity of this format and the incredible demand for digital services. We are constantly adding to the collection.”

Axis360 is the most accessible eBook platform available, allowing limited-sight patrons guided reading as well as text-to-voice options for all titles.

Just a short thought to get the word out quickly about anything in your neighborhood.
Share something with your neighbors. Write a new post... What's up? Make an announcement, speak your mind, or sell something

I see that I meant to type "...that connect us to the past," but I accidentally typedRead More "...and connect us to the past." I think my meaning came through, though. Yes, the world does not need another national chain retail store or restaurant, which is surely what they're planning to put in there.

Yes Bren, agree with you....good point.....really what it seems to come down to is money vs. theRead More good of the community and richness of traditions. And all despite the Master Plan for that site in San Mateo that seems to require an ice skating rink or similar recreational facility AT THAT SITE, and all despite the fact the Ice Chalet would like to continue operations there. The Developer has made it difficult to impossible for any ice rink to operate there (tricky it seems)....so they can get a cookie cutter retail outlet in ? .....very, very sad for the youth of the community.

I think the issue is much larger than whether children will experience stress. That ice rink is aRead More local institution, dating back at least to when Fashion Island was there. It's terrible for communities to lose so many landmarks and connect us to the past.

Dear Ari, Thank you for your service to our community. It's wonderful that you are already making aRead More difference.
