Monday is Last Day to Register to Vote in June 5 Election

Eligible voters must register by May 21.

With the Presidential Primary Election three weeks away, eligible San Mateo County voters have until Monday to file a new or updated voter registration card to be allowed to vote in the June 5 election.

“New to this year, the legislature is allowing individuals who obtain their American citizenship after May 21 the opportunity to register and vote up until the close of polls on June 5 in the Primary Election,” said San Mateo County’s Chief Elections Officer Mark Church.

Church reminds voters that, “This countywide election includes federal, state and local offices as well as statewide propositions and local ballot measures.  There are many issues on the ballot that will affect a voter’s quality of life, so it is important that eligible voters take the time to register and to vote.”

To be eligible to register to vote, a person must be: (1) a U.S. Citizen; (2) at least 18 years old on Election Day; (3) not in prison or on parole for a felony conviction; and (4) not deemed by a court to be mentally incompetent to register and to vote.

Further, registered voters must re-register whenever they have (1) moved to a new address, or (2) changed their name, or (3) desire to change political party affiliation prior to Primary Election.

Voter registration cards are available at the County Elections Office, as well as at any public library, city hall, or office of the U.S. Postal Service or Department of Motor Vehicles. Cards are also available online, from the website of the California Secretary of State at https://www.sos.ca.gov/nvrc/fedform/.

Voter registration cards require the applicant’s original signature and must be submitted in person or through the mail. A mailed registration card that is postmarked on or before May 21 will satisfy the deadline.

The website of the County Elections Office provides the latest registration statistics, updated weekly. The website also contains a link that allows eligible and registered voters to confirm their current registration status on the home page click on “Check My Registration/Access My Election Materials/ View My Sample Ballot Pamphlet.”

PS: Ideally, everybody will be able to sign up at the college website. But I have to acknowledgeRead More that some of the language may not be perfectly as clear as we'd like, especially if this is your first enrollment. Among all the supporters isn't there one competent attorney who can get an injunction to keep theRead More rink from being destroyed and who can sue SPI Holding, and if necessary the City, to enforce the Master Plan Agreement? A toilet and an astro turf field are useless to ice skaters. I smell something rotten in the Mayor and the City Council's excuses. At least one skater must have a parent or family member who is an attorney with some sense of decency to do the work pro bono.

To close the ice rink is a crime. I had this conversation years ago with Peter Pau, the man whoRead More built it. We need places for children to recreate. When we send them to juvenile hall, we wring our hands and wonder why! No skate board parks in convenient places and now the skating rink. Why are our children the ones to sacrafice?
