County Democrats Getting Fired Up

The new San Mateo County Democratic Party Headquarters, located in nearby Belmont, is gearing up for phone banking, community organizing and watching how the Republicans do this week in Tampa.

At one point it was a Goodwill thrift store, then last fall it served as the Halloween Super Store. Now the building at 650 El Camino Real in Belmont is "ground zero" for Democrats in San Mateo County.

With both parties' national conventions taking place over the next two weeks, the campaign season is in full swing and the local Democratic headquarters will be buzzing with activity.

Volunteers at the San Mateo County Democratic Headquarters will be making phone calls, walking precincts and coordinating a variety of events for local and national candidates, including the Charlotte By the Bay event to view the Democratic National Convention on TV.

In addition to Obama/Biden information, buttons, bumper stickers, signs and memorabilia, the SMC Democratic Party Headquarters also has information on propositions and local candidates on the November ballot, including school district and special district candidates.

To see a full schedule of events, go to www.sanmateodemocrats.org.

The San Mateo County Democratic Party Headquarters is open daily through the Nov. 6 Presidential election.

I see that I meant to type "...that connect us to the past," but I accidentally typedRead More "...and connect us to the past." I think my meaning came through, though. Yes, the world does not need another national chain retail store or restaurant, which is surely what they're planning to put in there.

Yes Bren, agree with you....good point.....really what it seems to come down to is money vs. theRead More good of the community and richness of traditions. And all despite the Master Plan for that site in San Mateo that seems to require an ice skating rink or similar recreational facility AT THAT SITE, and all despite the fact the Ice Chalet would like to continue operations there. The Developer has made it difficult to impossible for any ice rink to operate there (tricky it seems)....so they can get a cookie cutter retail outlet in ? .....very, very sad for the youth of the community.

I think the issue is much larger than whether children will experience stress. That ice rink is aRead More local institution, dating back at least to when Fashion Island was there. It's terrible for communities to lose so many landmarks and connect us to the past.

Dear Ari, Thank you for your service to our community. It's wonderful that you are already making aRead More difference.
