Still have your Christmas tree and aren't sure what to do with it? Don't worry, you're not alone. It may be the second week of January, but plenty of residents have yet to dispose of their holiday greenery.
Through Jan. 31, Recology San Mateo County will pick up residents' trees on their regular compost days, according to Gino Gasparini, a spokesman for the agency.
As of today, more than 200 tons of trees have been collected by the Recology Holiday Tree Collection vehicles, Gasparini said.
After Jan. 31, residents will be asked to cut up their trees so they fit in the compost bins, and Recology will then remove them.
Apartment managers and commercial customers should call fo rthe collection of trees. Trees can be collected in a predetermined area or in a “drop box” provided by Recology for no additional charge.
