Caltrain Could Receive $40 Million from State for New Signaling System

Caltrain will hold a news conference open to the public on Thursday at noon to discuss the potential new 'key funding allocation.' Several government representatives are scheduled to speak.

Caltrain will host a news conference Thursday to announce a key funding allocation "that will support critical work on an advanced signaling system, one of the corridor modernization projects funded through High Speed Rail’s ‘early investment’ program," Caltrain representatives announced Wednesday.

The California Transportation Commission is expected to vote on whether to release nearly $40 million for Positive Train Control. The signaling system will provide the foundation for improved operations and safety and the advancement of electrification work later on.

The public is invited to attend the news conference.

Opening remarks will be given by Adrienne Tissier, chair of the Joint Powers Board, which owns and maintains Caltrain. Other scheduled speakers include:

  • Tom Nolan, Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board Director
  • Rep. Jackie Speier
  • Asm. Jerry Hill
  • Sen. Leland Yee
  • Asm. Fiona Ma
  • Ann Schneider, Loma Prieta Chapter, Sierra Club

The conference is scheduled to take place this Thursday, Sept. 27 at noon at Caltrain's Millbrae station, 100 California Dr. in Millbrae, at the west side of station, on the southbound train platform.

I see that I meant to type "...that connect us to the past," but I accidentally typedRead More "...and connect us to the past." I think my meaning came through, though. Yes, the world does not need another national chain retail store or restaurant, which is surely what they're planning to put in there.

Yes Bren, agree with you....good point.....really what it seems to come down to is money vs. theRead More good of the community and richness of traditions. And all despite the Master Plan for that site in San Mateo that seems to require an ice skating rink or similar recreational facility AT THAT SITE, and all despite the fact the Ice Chalet would like to continue operations there. The Developer has made it difficult to impossible for any ice rink to operate there (tricky it seems)....so they can get a cookie cutter retail outlet in ? .....very, very sad for the youth of the community.

I think the issue is much larger than whether children will experience stress. That ice rink is aRead More local institution, dating back at least to when Fashion Island was there. It's terrible for communities to lose so many landmarks and connect us to the past.

Dear Ari, Thank you for your service to our community. It's wonderful that you are already making aRead More difference.
