Bay Area Bridge Tolls to Jump

The toll hike for most vehicles took effect in July of 2010, but bridge authority officials voted to delay the price increases for multi-axle vehicles until July 1, 2012.

Motorists who cross Bay Area bridges in big-rigs, cars or trucks hauling trailers, and other vehicle combinations with more than two axles will pay higher tolls starting July 1.

The toll increase for vehicles with three or more axles was approved in January 2010 as a two-step increase, with the second step set to take effect this summer, according to the Bay Area Toll Authority (BATA).

On the region's seven state-owned bridges, drivers of multi-axle vehicles will pay $5 times the number of axles, up to $35. For example, the toll will be $15 for three-axle vehicles and $20 for four-axle vehicles. Rigs with seven or more axles will pay $35.

BATA administers oversee revenues from the Bay Area's seven state-owned bridges, including the Dumbarton, San Mateo and Bay bridges.

Tolls on the Golden Gate Bridge will also increase July 1. Multi-axle vehicles will pay $6 times the number of axles. Drivers who use FasTrak will get a $1 discount.

The maximum toll, however, has been capped, with vehicles with seven or more axles paying the same rate. In 2010, a 12-axle vehicle crossing the Golden Gate Bridge would have paid a $36 cash toll. The same vehicle will now pay only $6 more, or $42.

Tolls on the Golden Gate Bridge are administered by The Golden Gate Bridge Highway and Transportation District, which operates the bridge.

Among all the supporters isn't there one competent attorney who can get an injunction to keep theRead More rink from being destroyed and who can sue SPI Holding, and if necessary the City, to enforce the Master Plan Agreement? A toilet and an astro turf field are useless to ice skaters. I smell something rotten in the Mayor and the City Council's excuses. At least one skater must have a parent or family member who is an attorney with some sense of decency to do the work pro bono.

To close the ice rink is a crime. I had this conversation years ago with Peter Pau, the man whoRead More built it. We need places for children to recreate. When we send them to juvenile hall, we wring our hands and wonder why! No skate board parks in convenient places and now the skating rink. Why are our children the ones to sacrafice?
