Woman Fatally Struck by Caltrain in Menlo Park

The incident occurred Monday night.

A Caltrain struck and killed a woman in Menlo Park on Sunday night, an agency spokeswoman said.

The pedestrian was fatally struck by a southbound train at Encinal Avenue at about 7:30 p.m., spokeswoman Christine Dunn said.

The train, No. 804, was stopped at Oak Grove Avenue and its 238 passengers were transferred to the next southbound train, Dunn said.

Train tracks were closed in the area as emergency crews responded. No injuries were reported among the passengers or Caltrain crew.

This is the first fatality of the year on the Caltrain tracks, Dunn said. Last year there were 16 fatalities.

Caltrain was running on a Saturday schedule on Monday because of the holiday.

I think the issue is much larger than whether children will experience stress. That ice rink is aRead More local institution, dating back at least to when Fashion Island was there. It's terrible for communities to lose so many landmarks and connect us to the past.
