Some 20 to 25 homes are without water and three fire hydrants are out of service until repairs can be made, the result of a broken water main on Santa Clarita Way in San Mateo.
Cal Water representatives estimated that the repairs would be complete within six to 10 hours.
Crews from the city fire, police and public works departments responded to a report of a broken line Tuesday in front of 217 Santa Clara Way shortly after noon. Fire units on scene discovered a rupture significant enough to displace a private driveway and part of the sidewalk.

Within 10 minutes, Cal Water technicians were able to shut off the water supply.
Little property damage resulted. Three private homes experienced minor flooding inside the garage areas and one driveway was severely damaged by the water leak that lifted the concrete.
