Trial Pushed Back for Woman Who Plowed into San Mateo Fire Station

Lasheena Cardona reportedly had a blood alcohol level of 0.31 percent during the July crash.

The trial for a woman who crashed her SUV into a San Mateo fire station in July has been pushed back to 2012, San Mateo County prosecutors said Tuesday.

Lasheena Cardona, 36, of Oakland, was driving with her 17-year-old daughter the night of July 11 when Cardona apparently lost control of her GMC Yukon on a state Highway 92 off-ramp, according to San Mateo police.

Cardona's vehicle then left the roadway and hurtled into a garage door of San Mateo Fire Department's Station 27 on De Anza Boulevard at about 11 p.m., police said.

The firefighters inside Station 27 rushed out to find Cardona unconscious behind the wheel and her 17-year-old daughter injured in the passenger seat, according to police.

Police said "extensive damage occurred to the fire station building." Prosecutors said Cardona also struck a parked fire truck.

Cardona and her daughter were taken to the nearest trauma center for treatment. The daughter suffered a facial laceration that required nine stitches.

No one at the fire station, located at 1801 De Anza, was injured, although on-duty firefighters said they were jolted by the crash.

Prosecutors said prior to the crash, Cardona started talking incoherently and stated she was having trouble seeing.

Cardona's blood alcohol level, which was taken 90 minutes after the crash, registered at 0.31 percent, according to prosecutors.

Cardona has been charged with felony drunk driving and child endangerment. Her trial was scheduled to take place Nov. 14, but was rescheduled to Jan. 17 after Cardona was allowed to substitute her attorney from the Private Defender Program with a retained attorney on Monday.

Cardona is out of custody on a $100,000 bail bond, which she posted on Sept. 16.
