SMPD Needs Help Finding 'Child Annoyance Suspet'; Drunk Man Allegedly Asked Teen for Sex

San Mateo police are asking for the public's help in tracking down a man who they say solicited a teen girl for sex.

According to a police alert distributed Wednesday morning, the man– who appeared intoxicated at the time– approached a 15-year-old girl on North Claremont Street Tuesday morning.  He apparently went up to her from behind, and spoke to her in Spanish, "...soliciting her for sex."

"The victim refused the request, and was able to leave the area," police said.

She called police, who arrived a short time later.  They searched the area, but could not locate the man.

However, they were able to obtain some images of the suspect via a nearby store's surveillance camera, according to the police alert.  The man, seen in the photo attached to this article, is described as 5'4" tall with a medium build, with dark hair and a thick moustache.  He was wearing a dark colored heavy jacket and jeans at the time.

"Both the victim and the store owner where the video was located told police that the suspect appeared to be heavily intoxicated," police added.

If you recognize the suspect in the photo,  contact SMPD Patrol at 650-522-7700.
