San Mateo Resident Killed in Metro Center Blvd. Crash

A driver crashed into a tree and became trapped in the car Wednesday afternoon.

An 84-year-old San Mateo resident was killed in a crash on Metro Center Boulevard in Foster City on Wednesday afternoon.

Foster City emergency personnel responded to the solo-vehicle crash in front of Orchard Supply Hardware, located at 1010 Metro Center Blvd., shortly 4 p.m. and found the driver trapped inside the car, Foster City police said.

The driver had suddenly veered off the roadway and crashed into a tree, causing significant damage to the vehicle, according to police

There were no passengers in this vehicle or any other vehicles involved in the collision.

Upon arrival, emergency personnel found the driver trapped inside the vehicle. The Fire Department extricated the driver from the vehicle and emergency assistance was rendered, but the driver was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene.

San Mateo County coroner's office personnel was responding to the scene Wednesday evening, and the investigation is continuing.

The driver's name has not yet been released.
