San Mateo Police Increase Patrols on Super Bowl Sunday

The City of San Mateo reminds residents to enjoy the game responsibly.

The following is a community alert from the San Mateo Police Department on behalf of the City of San Mateo Organization:

On Sunday afternoon the San Francisco 49ers compete in the Superbowl for the first time in 18 years. Sports Championship competition is nothing new to the community this year — we have already seen a raucous celebration in the wake of the San Francisco Giants World Series victory a few months ago. Successful or not, post-championship celebrations bring with them the dangers of intoxication issues, traffic problems, and the potential for damage of both private and public property.

San Mateo Police will be out in the community with increased patrols on Sunday, ready for any post-game activity that may threaten community safety.

The City of San Mateo wishes our hometown 49ers luck this Sunday, and reminds the community to please enjoy responsibly:

 • Designate a driver if you plan to consume alcohol while watching the game at a party or bar
 • Traffic congestions can occur in the wake of these big games, especially on El Camino Real and in our Downtown area – plan your travel accordingly
 • Public discharge of firearms and ignition of fireworks are illegal – please report this dangerous activity immediately to SMPD
 • Please report any disruptive or destructive gatherings immediately to SMPD, so that we can address these issues a quickly as possible and keep our community safe

San Mateo Police Department Dispatch – 650-522-7700

Again – Please Have Fun and Enjoy Superbowl Sunday 2013 Responsibly – GO NINERS!

I see that I meant to type "...that connect us to the past," but I accidentally typedRead More "...and connect us to the past." I think my meaning came through, though. Yes, the world does not need another national chain retail store or restaurant, which is surely what they're planning to put in there.

Yes Bren, agree with you....good point.....really what it seems to come down to is money vs. theRead More good of the community and richness of traditions. And all despite the Master Plan for that site in San Mateo that seems to require an ice skating rink or similar recreational facility AT THAT SITE, and all despite the fact the Ice Chalet would like to continue operations there. The Developer has made it difficult to impossible for any ice rink to operate there (tricky it seems)....so they can get a cookie cutter retail outlet in ? .....very, very sad for the youth of the community.

I think the issue is much larger than whether children will experience stress. That ice rink is aRead More local institution, dating back at least to when Fashion Island was there. It's terrible for communities to lose so many landmarks and connect us to the past.

Dear Ari, Thank you for your service to our community. It's wonderful that you are already making aRead More difference.
