San Mateo Police Arrest Stabbing Suspect

The stabbing occurred Thursday afternoon near the San Mateo Caltrain station.

San Mateo police have arrested a man suspected of stabbing another male near the Caltrain station in downtown San Mateo on Thursday afternoon.

The stabbing was reported at 4:10 p.m. on a pedestrian footbridge connecting the north end of the Downtown Transit Center Caltrain station and an alley behind North B Street.

The victim was found there suffering from a stab wound and was transported to a trauma center for treatment. Police said Monday he was expected to survive.

Following leads, detectives identified the suspect as Dantes Mkrtchjan, a 21-year-old transient, and disseminated investigative information about Mkrtchjan to surrounding law enforcement agencies.

A San Mateo Patrol Sergeant spotted Mkrtchjan on Friday, and the suspect was taken into custody within 24 hours of the incident.

Mkrtchjan was arrested in the area of Hillsdale Boulevard and El Camino Real, and booked into San Mateo County Jail on suspicion of Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

Anyone with information about the stabbing has been asked to call San Mateo police at (650) 522-7700.

I see that I meant to type "...that connect us to the past," but I accidentally typedRead More "...and connect us to the past." I think my meaning came through, though. Yes, the world does not need another national chain retail store or restaurant, which is surely what they're planning to put in there.

Yes Bren, agree with you....good point.....really what it seems to come down to is money vs. theRead More good of the community and richness of traditions. And all despite the Master Plan for that site in San Mateo that seems to require an ice skating rink or similar recreational facility AT THAT SITE, and all despite the fact the Ice Chalet would like to continue operations there. The Developer has made it difficult to impossible for any ice rink to operate there (tricky it seems)....so they can get a cookie cutter retail outlet in ? .....very, very sad for the youth of the community.

I think the issue is much larger than whether children will experience stress. That ice rink is aRead More local institution, dating back at least to when Fashion Island was there. It's terrible for communities to lose so many landmarks and connect us to the past.
