San Mateo Police Arrest Cyclist Attackers

Two men in a pickup truck allegedly tried to run over two juveniles on bicycles.

San Mateo police arrested two men on Sunday who allegedly tried to hit a pair of juveniles on bicycles.

Officers responded at about 3:45 p.m. to the area of Fourth Avenue and Grant Street after witnesses reported two suspects in a gold pickup truck were harassing two male juveniles on bicycles, San Mateo Police Sgt. Dave Norris said.

The men in the pickup truck allegedly tried to hit the bicyclists as well.

One of the juveniles jumped off of his bike to avoid being struck, and the truck drove over the bicycle and onto the sidewalk toward the juvenile, Norris said.

The two juveniles were located uninjured. Based on detailed witness information, officers located the suspect vehicle in San Mateo and identified the suspects as Jason Hernandez-Lopez, 24, and Dian Burton, 31, both San Mateo residents.

Hernandez-Lopez and Burton were arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and conspiracy. They were booked into San Mateo County Jail.

Immediate calls and very specific witness information quickly relayed to the San Mateo Police Department were critical in the success of this case, Norris said.

The Police Department urges residents to contact authorities when something suspicious is noticed.

Among all the supporters isn't there one competent attorney who can get an injunction to keep theRead More rink from being destroyed and who can sue SPI Holding, and if necessary the City, to enforce the Master Plan Agreement? A toilet and an astro turf field are useless to ice skaters. I smell something rotten in the Mayor and the City Council's excuses. At least one skater must have a parent or family member who is an attorney with some sense of decency to do the work pro bono.

To close the ice rink is a crime. I had this conversation years ago with Peter Pau, the man whoRead More built it. We need places for children to recreate. When we send them to juvenile hall, we wring our hands and wonder why! No skate board parks in convenient places and now the skating rink. Why are our children the ones to sacrafice?
