San Mateo Man Killed in Rollover Crash on Hwy 1

The driver, a San Mateo resident, was ejected from the car early Tuesday morning and pronounced dead at the scene.

A 23-year-old San Mateo man was killed and another man was injured in a rollover crash on state Highway 1 in Half Moon Bay early Tuesday morning, a sheriff's spokeswoman said.

The crash, which involved a white 1998 Nissan four-door sedan, was reported at about 12:40 a.m. on Highway 1 near Spindrift Way, according to San Mateo County sheriff's Deputy Rebecca Rosenblatt.

The driver was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene, she said. The passenger, also a 23-year-old man from San Mateo, was injured and was transported to a hospital by ambulance, Rosenblatt said.

According to Rosenblatt, the roadway reopened at about 4:30 a.m. The identity of the man killed has not yet been released, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
