The San Mateo County Jail is reducing its visiting hours with the exception of attorneys due to budget and personnel cuts.

"The jail system continues to be challenged with overcrowding while also preparing for the upsurge in state prisoners serving their time locally. This is an additional contributing factor in the closure decision," the sheriff's office said in a statement.
This change will take place effective immediately. Attorneys will continue to have seven day a week access.
Because no public visiting will be held Wednesdays, child daycare services for visitors will also be closed on those days.
