Police Say Hotel Death Was Suicide

A female found in a Hilton hotel room in San Mateo on Monday afternoon died in an apparent suicide, San Mateo police said Monday night.

San Mateo police say a female inside a Hilton Garden Inn on Monday afternoon died in an apparent suicide, after originally linking the death to a possible chemical exposure.

In a news release sent out Monday night, police also said there was no indication of foul play.

Emergency officials responded to the hotel, located at 2000 Bridgepoint Circle, at about 2 p.m. to reports of a fatality, Sgt. Dave Norris said.

Responding personnel noted evidence of an unidentified exposure incident. In the interest of safety, the scene was secured, adjacent hotel rooms were evacuated, and a hazardous materials call-out was initiated, according to Norris.

A unified incident command was formed consisting of the San Mateo County Hazardous Materials Response Team, the San Mateo Police Department, the San Mateo and Foster City Fire Departments, Belmont Fire Department, San Mateo County Fire, the San Mateo County Office of Emergency Services, and the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office.

As of 4 p.m. there was no public danger of exposure.

The incident itself, including the exact chain of events leading to the exposure and the fatality, remains under investigation.

I think the issue is much larger than whether children will experience stress. That ice rink is aRead More local institution, dating back at least to when Fashion Island was there. It's terrible for communities to lose so many landmarks and connect us to the past.
