Oil Spill, Crash Trigger Overnight Hwy 101 Lane Closures

Both incidents occurred early Saturday morning on Peninsula roadways.

An oil spill in San Carlos and a car crash in San Mateo promoted lane closures of U.S. Highway 101 early Saturday morning.

All lanes of northbound Highway 101 were blocked temporarily due to a multi-car collision just north of the Peninsula Avenue off ramp around 4:20 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

Then, shortly before 6 a.m., a crash between two cars and motorcycle occurred at the southbound Holly Street off ramp in San Carlos.

Oil spilled into the roadway from that crash, prompting lane closures until about 6:40 a.m.
