Motorcyclist Killed in San Mateo Crash Identified

The crash occurred just after 5 p.m. Thursday on Highway 101 in San Mateo, snarling the evening commute for hours.

The San Mateo County coroner's office has identified a motorcyclist who was killed in a crash on southbound U.S. Highway 101 Thursday evening.

Charles Gomez, 45, of San Francisco, was killed in the crash that was reported around 5 p.m. on Highway 101 near East Poplar Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The response to the accident blocked southbound lanes for hours.

The lanes reopened around 7:30 p.m., according to the CHP.

One resident was driving south on Highway 101 and reportedly saw a motorcyclist pass at about 50 to 60 mph. The driver said the crash then happened in front of the car about 15 seconds later.
