Man Dies After Crashing into Tree on I-280

The crash occurred in Redwood City early Monday morning.

A man died in Redwood City early Monday morning when his car hit a tree off Interstate Highway 280, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP officers responded to reports of a body on the roadway at 1:18 a.m. on the Farm Hill Boulevard offramp of I-280, CHP officer Art Montiel said.

The approximately 30-year-old man was traveling south on I-280 and lost control of the vehicle just north of Farm Hill Boulevard and ran off the road. The vehicle crashed into with a tree just south of the Farm Hill Boulevard offramp, and the man was ejected from the vehicle, landing on the offramp.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, Montiel said.

Montiel said it appeared another vehicle collided with the body after it landed on the roadway.

Officers are investigating the incident, and Montiel said there is no suspicion that alcohol was involved in the crash. He did say, however, that it appears speed may have been a factor.
